Due to continued growth in the area, the City of Franklin decided to accommodate their Police Department in a new structure on Columbia Avenue. This 50 – year building has served as a catalyst in the larger Columbia Avenue corridor redevelopment project and achieved LEED Gold Certification for its environmental conservation features. It received a 2011 Excellence in Development Award from the Urban Land Institute and the New Institutional Construction Preservation Award from the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County.
